2020 Broken Earth Reserve Merlot
When a red wine drinker describes a wine that they would like to consume often, they often describe Merlot. Soft and generous in flavor, Merlot is a significant Bordeaux variety grown in Paso Robles for many years. Merlot likes the sun and the heat. The 2020 Broken Earth Reserve Merlot displays all the characteristics that make Merlot so charming. Expressive dark fruits with silky tannins fill the mouth. Bright acidity goes down clean on the finish.
This Merlot was machine-harvested on September 10th in the middle of the night. Early the same day it arrived at the winery and was de-stemmed, crushed, and inoculated with BDX yeast. Twopump-overs a day were done until fermentation was completed. After pressing malolactic fermentation was started. The wine then was barreled into new French and Hybrid barrels and aged for 24 months. The wine was filtered and bottled on February 16, 2023. We produced 215 cases. Merlot is one of the 5 Bordeaux varietals that are famous in France and beyond.
Broken Earth’s Reserve Merlot is layered with rich anise, cherry, and spice flavors. It pairs well with grilled chicken and pork loin. Ready to drink at the initial bottling this Merlot still has the structure to age with grace
